Generators may be operated only between 8.00am and 7.00pm providing they have a sound rating of 65 decibels or less.

The Wongai camping area has an abundance of shady wongai trees and is bounded by tidal creeks. Access to the camping area is by high-clearance 4WD vehicle only—it is not accessible for trailers, caravans, campervans or buses. Access involves four-wheel driving in sand, a freshwater creek crossing and a tidal creek crossing. The camping area is suitable for tent camping beside your car on a sand surface. There are no facilities. Generators that operate at a noise level less than 65dB(A) when measured at 7m from the generator are permitted. Mobile phone coverage is not available. Satellite phones are essential and personal locator beacons (PLBs) are highly recommended.
Cape Melville National Park (CYPAL), including all camping areas, is closed throughout the wet season every year from 1 December to 31 July (inclusive).
